Privacy Policy

The short version
Almost everything you enter into Alongside — profiles, notes, checklists, check-ins — stays on your device. The one exception is "I Noticed Something," where what you type is sent securely to generate a response and is not used to train any AI model or sold to anyone. We don't run ads, and we don't sell your data. Ever.
1. Who we are
Alongside is developed and operated by CircleRootTech LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("CircleRootTech," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Alongside mobile application (the "Service") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.
2. Information stored on your device
The following information is entered by you and stored locally on your device using your device's local storage. It is not transmitted to us or any third party, except as described in Section 3:
- Your name, as entered during setup
- Care profiles you create (nickname, age, relationship, and any conditions you enter)
- Observations and questions you log about a care profile, and any response received
- Appointment preparation notes, checked questions, and custom questions
- Advance Care Planning checklist progress
- Caregiver check-in entries (mood and any notes you add)
Because this information lives on your device, uninstalling the app or using the in-app "Delete All Data" option in Settings permanently removes it. We do not retain a copy once it's deleted from your device, because we never had one to begin with — see Section 3 for the one exception.
3. Information sent off your device
When you use the "I Noticed Something" feature, the observation you type, along with the relevant care profile's age and any listed conditions, is sent from your device to our cloud infrastructure and then to our third-party AI service provider (currently Anthropic) in order to generate a response. This information is processed to generate your response and is handled under our AI provider's own data-handling terms; we do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. We do not control, and are not responsible for, how our infrastructure or AI service providers independently retain data under their own policies — see their own privacy terms for details.
4. Sharing with family members
The "Share Care Circle" feature uses your device's native share functionality (such as Messages, Mail, or another app you choose) to send a pre-written message about a care profile. This message is sent through whatever app or service you select, and is subject to that app or service's own privacy practices — not this Policy — once it leaves the share sheet. We do not see or store the content of what you share this way, and we do not currently have a live two-way syncing feature between users.
5. What we don't do
- We don't display ads or use advertising trackers in the Service.
- We don't sell your information to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
- We don't use the content you enter to train AI models.
- We don't require you to create an account or provide an email address to use the core features of the app.
6. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for use by adult caregivers and is not directed at children. Care profiles are used to track information about the user's aging family members, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at the email below and we will address it.
7. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information transmitted to and from our infrastructure. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices
You can view, edit, or delete any care profile at any time within the app. You can permanently erase all locally stored data at once using Settings → Delete All Data. Because most data lives only on your device, you are in direct control of it without needing to contact us.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice within the app.
