Medical & Legal Disclaimer

In one sentence
Alongside is an information and organization tool for family caregivers — it is not a doctor, not a nurse, not a lawyer, not an emergency service, and nothing in the app should be treated as professional advice about your parent's health, care, or legal affairs.
1. Alongside is not a medical device or medical service
Alongside is designed to help you organize information and understand general, publicly available context about aging. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition, and it is not registered, cleared, or approved by the FDA or any other regulatory body as a medical device. Nothing in the app creates a doctor-patient, nurse-patient, or any other clinical relationship between you, your parent, and CircleRootTech LLC.
2. No content in the app is medical advice
This includes, without limitation:
- The Milestone Guide's descriptions of what's "typical" for a given age
- Responses generated through "I Noticed Something," which are produced by an artificial intelligence system and have not been written, reviewed, or approved by a licensed physician, nurse, or other medical professional
- Suggested questions in Appointment Prep
- Any content in Advance Care Planning, including descriptions of DNRs, POLSTs, hospice, or end-of-life processes
This content is general in nature, may not apply to your parent's specific situation, and may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Always consult your parent's actual doctor or a qualified healthcare provider before making any medical decision, changing any care plan, or acting on anything you read or receive in Alongside.
3. AI-generated content carries additional risk
"I Noticed Something" uses a third-party artificial intelligence service to generate a response to what you describe. AI-generated text can be incomplete, inaccurate, generic, or simply wrong, and it is generated automatically with no human clinician reviewing it before it reaches you. Treat every AI-generated response in Alongside as a starting point for a conversation with a real medical professional — never as a conclusion.
4. If this is an emergency, do not use this app
Alongside is not monitored in real time, is not staffed by medical professionals, and cannot call for help on your behalf. If your parent is experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden confusion, is unresponsive, or you believe you may be facing any medical emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately. Do the same if you yourself are in crisis — the Check-In feature's resources are for everyday caregiver support, not emergency intervention.
5. Advance Care Planning content is not legal advice
The Advance Care Planning section describes documents such as Advance Directives, DNRs, POLSTs, Powers of Attorney, and wills in general, educational terms. Requirements for these documents vary by state and change over time. This content is not legal advice, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and should not be relied on in place of a licensed attorney and your parent's physician when preparing or executing any actual legal or medical document.
6. You are responsible for the decisions you make
You, not Alongside and not CircleRootTech LLC, are solely responsible for any decision you make about your parent's medical care, legal affairs, or finances, whether or not that decision was informed by something you read in the app. See our full Terms of Service for the complete limitation of liability that governs your use of Alongside.
7. Questions
